 Apostle St. Thomas is an very important  among the 12 of Jesus Christ.  He came to India to preach the Gospel of Jesus.  He was lastly living at Tamil Nadu and the place in which he was staying is now called as St. Thomas Mount. He erected a Cross in the alder of Shrine  Parangimalai Church.  He  was  also killed very here.  St. Thomas had become very popular among the general public at that time.   It was induced hatred to the then ruling King.   So he sent his labors to kill St. Thomas.  As a result,  while St. Thomas was worshiping the Cross, he was speared  behind his back and was killed. Just then his blood was sprinkled over that Cross.  It is known that his wet blood and sweat is visible and disappear there in current days also.

Apart from this, Ave Maria appeared before the St. Lucas, who had combined the gospel of Christ in Greek language and he drew various pictures of Ave Maria. 
 Out of them, St. Thomas was always keeping a picture of St. Francis Mary with Infant Jesus throughout his lifetime.   That scarce picture find here is an attractive thing.

An another fascination was also held in this Mount.   It was took place during the British regime. They had decided to prepare a map of India.  They named the certain work as “The Great Arch”.  Colonel William Lambton was appointed for that great job.  He started the measurement from St. Thomas Mount itself.   Since from 1802 he was measuring the Indian  map for nearly 40 years by traveling to different places of India  and he had expired at his 70th old at Maharashtra.  After his demise, the said occupation was entrusted with one Thomas Everest.   This Thomas had invented in his survey, Himalaya in India is the tallest mount in the world.   Previously, “Andes” was believed as world’s No.1 tallest mountain, but Thomas Everest had trodden it and proved with support.   As the mountain was invented by  Thomas Everest Survey Committee, it was called in his very  name as “ Mount Everest”.
